COLLEEN BUYING OUR FIRST CHINCOTEAGUE PONIES

Colleen, like many children, grew up dreaming of owning her own Chincoteague Pony after reading Misty of Chincoteague and watching the iconic pony swim. Fast forward about 13 years, and Colleen found herself living on the East Coast, working at a stallion station in Maryland, where she spent her free time visiting Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.

Eager to learn more about the ponies, she immersed herself in the local culture, researched different bloodlines, and enjoyed hiking and boat tours, all with the hope of one day bringing home a pony. The islands held such special significance that Dallas proposed to Colleen on Assateague Island during their visit for the spring pony roundup!

In July 2024, Colleen and Dallas joined over 40,000 spectators for the 99th annual Chincoteague Pony Swim. The following day, at the pony sale, Colleen's dream came true when she and Dallas purchased a little palomino pinto filly, later named “Misty,” and a sorrel pinto colt they named “Romeo”!

Colleen and Dallas returned to Chincoteague in 2025 to watch the 100th Annual Pony Swim! At the record breaking 100th Annual Sale they brought home a sweet double dilute filly that is now named "Pearl."

In 2025 Colleen learned about Allen a Chincoteague Pony gelding who was owned by the Leathers family and lived on the 6666 Ranch, later in the year he was unexpectedly offered to our program and we were excitedly welcomed him to the herd! Thanks to friends within the Chincoteague Pony community we quickly found out Allen was even more special than we knew as he is a descendant of Misty herself!

Out of the exceptional mare “Molly’s Rosebud,” Romeo is a confident colt with great conformation and a promising stallion prospect.

Allen

Misty's Midnight Tempest aka "Allen" is a 2010 black pinto gelding that was privately bred by Kendy Allen with the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team. He is actually a descendent of the real Misty! Colleen met Allen while interning at the Sixes and later had the opportunity to purchase him from the Leathers family. Allen rides, drives and has even worked cattle showing off the versatility of the breed! Allen is a part of our lesson and trail riding program here at RSR and is involved in the literacy program!

MISTY

This sweet 2024 palomino pinto filly, out of “Badabing” and “Ajax,” is smart and curious, poised to start our breeding program.

PEARL

Our 2025 cremello pinto filly that we named "Saltwater Pearl," was born on Assateague to the mare "Serendipity" and by the stallion "Chief's Golden Eagle."

RSR CHINCOTEAGUE BREEDING PROGRAM

Our goal is to establish a Chincoteague Breeding Program right here in Arkansas! We are carefully acquiring breeding stock from both the island and select private breeders to ensure our ponies exhibit the best possible conformation, temperament, and bloodlines.

With our existing focus on Equine Reproduction at Rose of Sharon Ranch, we have a unique opportunity to build this breeding program and eventually offer cooled and frozen semen from a Chincoteague Stallion, allowing mare owners across the country to breed their very own Chincoteague Pony foal.

ADDITIONAL CHINCOTEAGUE PONY SERVICES

Colleen and Dallas are excited about expanding their Chincoteague Pony program, but they are equally committed to helping others achieve their dream of owning a Chincoteague Pony!

In 2025, they will attend the 100th annual pony swim and sale, offering hauling services back to Arkansas (or anywhere in between Virginia and Arkansas).

At Rose of Sharon Ranch, we also provide foal transition and handling services, where we take your new feral foal and help them adjust to a domestic horse diet. This includes deworming and vaccinations under supervision of Dr Mike Pallone (after they have settled from weaning and hauling), as well as halter training and acclimatization to handling.

Please keep in mind that these foals are essentially wild; while most are accustomed to seeing people, they may not be handled. We recommend working with a professional, especially for first-time horse owners!
