THE HISTORY OF THE CHINCOTEAGUE PONY
Discover the captivating history of the Chincoteague Pony, a breed steeped in legend and resilience. Believed to be descendants of horses from a 16th-century shipwreck, these ponies adapted to their island environment, resulting in their unique size and characteristics. Often misunderstood as wild, these ponies are a cherished part of the local culture and a true treasure of the region.

READING ROUNDUP
LITERACY PROJECT
Inspired by the Rose of Sharon Ranch’s past involvement with the Black Stallion Literacy Project, Dallas and Colleen aim to launch a non-profit initiative called the “Reading Roundup Literacy Project” in 2025.
This program will raise funds to provide copies of Misty of Chincoteague to 5th graders at local schools, with distribution involving their team and a special pony. In the spring, participating schools will be invited to a field trip at Rose of Sharon Ranch for hands-on horse care experiences and literacy activities.
